Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe
Exceptional assets; a land of art and conviviality
The Centre-Ville of Saint-Savin
Dominated by the Abbey and its church, Saint-Savin opens up to you on the banks of the Gartempe, its narrow streets lined with medieval houses, its large square, its terraces of bistros, restaurants and small shops. So many assets of charm and conviviality to discover...
The Abbey of Saint-Savin
Inescapable! André Malraux called the abbey the Sistine Chapel of Romanesque art. All the murals of the church (late 11th and early 12th) are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. An exceptional site, unique in the world!
The Valley of the Frescoes
Between Saint-Savin and Saulgé, a route along the Gartempe connects many monuments decorated with murals. Artists of the past exercised their talent on the walls of churches, chapels and castles, responding to the orders of monks and lords, between the 11th and 16th centuries.
You can visit the monuments of the Valley of the Frescoes one by one or take part in guided tours, organized especially in summer. More information on the website of the Abbey of Saint-Savin.
